How to make a Sand Spike for Surf Fishing

Sand Spikes or Rod Holders for loose sand or gravel areas containing small rocks can be made with garden post used to support wire fence. The posts are made of metal and have a shallow grove that is perfect to hold PVC pipe. The garden posts are available in a variety of sizes with the 3 foot long post being the best for making a sand spike. A short 1 ½ or 2 foot length of 2 inch diameter PVC pipe is secured in the grove with either hose clamps or wire clamps. We prefer the hose clamps. The Rod Holder can easily be pushed into sand and will support a fishing rod.
