Michigan City Indiana was established in 1830 at the mouth of Trail Creek. Today, it is a part of the huge 'Chicagoland' urban megalopolis. It has always been an important harbor and a recent multi-million dollar harbor improvement project underlines the city's intent to stay that way. Located at the edge of the 15,000 acres Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park, it is still possible to see the skyline of Chicago on the distant horizon.
