Trip Conditions:
Locations Fished: Small Boat Harbor in Kenosha, Wisconsin
Date: 01/03/2004
Weather: cold, overcast
Temperature: 35 degrees
Wind Velocity: No Wind
Water Level: low, Clarity: Murky
Fish Species Targeted: Brown Trout
Fish Caught: Several brown trout and some Steelhead caught by other anglers
Fishing Trip Quality: Slow

We arrived at the small boat harbor with great expectations. The prior day the fishing action had been excellent. The fog from the prior day had lifted as the temperature dropped back into the mid 30's.

Today the bite was almost nonexistent. With several dozen anglers fishing it was several hours before the first fish was landed. The fish were ignoring spoons. The fish were actually following crank baits to the pier wall. I had 9 follows on crankbaits. Don said that the trout were behaving more like musky. Having 9 musky follows in a days fishing is not bad. We have never seen trout in such a negative mood and still following baits. The only fish caught today were by anglers using ultra slow presentations. The most effective presentation was small white tube jigs tipped with waxworms below slip bobbers.
